MA in English Language Teaching: Online

Highlights

The MA in ELT: Online offered a part-time, fully-online Masters degree for students across the world. The first students started the course in 2007, and the final cohort will graduate in 2024.

The MA in English Language Teaching: Online was an innovative Masters degree programme. It involved part-time study over five semesters (two and a half years including a dissertation) by distance learning, entirely online. The programme was specially developed by Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at the University of Southampton in collaboration with the British Council.

The course delivered postgraduate-level study in a number of important areas of current theory and practice in applied linguistics and language teaching, and provided a focussed route for English language teaching professionals who wished to develop advanced knowledge and skills in English language curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. Practising teachers were given the opportunity to reflect on professional experience and update their theoretical and pedagogical knowledge in a flexible and well-supported learning environment.

The online programme was designed and developed by the eLanguages team in collaboration with module leaders on our well-established face-to-face Masters degree programme.
